Prenatal Essentials
EMBODIMENT
Pregnancy is a time of extreme physical changes and for some can be a time of deeper awareness and connection to your physical self. But it can also be a time of heightened stress or uncertainty.
Our bodies are changing rapidly and you may be confronted with discomfort or pain that is challenging to manage and leaves you feeling frustrated and overwhelmed.
Our nervous system is in charge of our stress response to both real and perceived threats. Oftentimes, our Sympathetic Nervous System, the Fight or Flight response, kicks in during times of stress- even if we aren't actually in danger.
Over time, this can become our automatic response to stress and anxiety. But we can practice stimulating the Para-sympathetic nervous system, which helps promote relaxation and calm.
Especially as we prepare for birth, we want to develop our relaxation response by spending as much time in our Parasympathetic Nervous System and practicing regulating our nervous system when we feel triggered.
CENTERING/GROUNDING PRACTICES
Grounding techniques are quick tools you can use to get you out of your head and back into your body and the present moment by triggering your physical responses to release stress and tension.
